Shimano’s innovative design strategy starts with an extremely light basic rim structure and then adds the minimal elements necessary to reach durability standards. Proprietary T-nut welding and carbon layer reinforcement allows us to craft rims with an optimal strength-to-weight ratio and superior ride quality.
Welded T-nut Reinforcement

T-nut construction technology reinforces ONLY at high stress points where spokes are threaded into the rim. Optimal spoke tension is supported, which boosts strength and rigidity, while also minimizing weight.
Carbon layer reinforcement

24 layers of lightweight, uni-directional carbon fiber is layered over 0.55mm aluminum rims,* creating optimal balance of weight, rigidity and ride quality.

Proprietary Extrusion and Carbon Fiber

The proprietary extrusion of a very thin aluminum rim, fused with layers of unidirectional carbon fiber creates a unique composite with the remarkable strength and damping properties of both materials.
